Skin Antiseptic

1.1 Citrasafe RTU

MEDICAL ANTISEPTIC AND WOUND CARE GERMICIDE

CITRASAFE-RTU protects your patients by gently cleansing and helping to prevent infection of minor skin injuries.

Indication

Cuts and grazes are common injuries that can usually be treated at home. A cut is when the skin is fully broken, and a graze is when only the top layers of skin are scraped off. Usually, all you need to do is clean the cut or graze to reduce infection and apply pressure and raise the injury to stop the bleeding. The wound should heal by itself in a few days.

1.2 Handshield 2

SURGICAL SKIN PREP

HANDSHIELD 2 provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. It has high persistent effect providing protection for longer duration and applied in a fraction of time causing rapid skin disinfection.

Surgical Site Infection (SSI)

Patient Skin is a major source of pathogens that cause Surgical Site Infection, optimization of preoperative skin antisepsis may decrease post operative infections. Surgical site infection occurs in 300,000 to 500,000 patients who undergo surgery in United States each year, since the patient’s skin is a major source of pathogens; it is conceivable that improving skin antisepsis would decrease surgical site infection.

Role of Chlorhexidine Gluconate and Ethyl-alcohol

The Study published in THE NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL of MEDICINE concludes that Preoperative cleaning of the patient’s skin with Chlorhexidine-alcohol is superior to cleansing with povidone-iodine for preventing Surgical site infection after cleaning contaminated surgery.

1.3 Handshield PV 5% & 10%

GOLD STANDARD SURGICAL ANTISEPTIC

HANDSHIELD P.V 5% & 10% are powerful antiseptics and disinfectants used in Post-operative applications to protect against possible infections.

CDC on Povidone-Iodine

Iodophors have largely replaced iodine as the active ingredients in antiseptics. The most common polymers incorporated into iodophors are polyvinylpyrrolidone (i.e, Povidone). Iodophors have bactericidal activity against gram positive, gram negative and certain spore-forming bacteria and are active against mycobacteria, viruses and fungi. Povidone-Iodine 5%-10% has been tentatively classified by FDA TFM as a category I agent (i.e. a safe and effective agent for use as an antiseptic hand wash and an HCW hand wash)

Typical 10% povidone-iodine formulation contains 1% available iodine and yields free iodine concentration of 1ppm.

Typical 5% povidone-iodine formulation contains 0.5% available iodine and yields free iodine concentration of 0.5ppm.

Povidone-Iodine advantages

Povidone iodine has many potential advantages over some current popular medications, including broader antibacterial spectrum, lack of identifiable bacterial resistances and significantly lower price. It has made a significant contribution to pre and post operative surgical prophylaxis world over.

1.4 Handshield Prep

SURGICAL SKIN PREP

HANDSHIELD PREP is an ideal surgical prepping agent which disinfects the skin appropriately. It helps in the prevention of Vascular Catheter Associated Infection and Surgical site infections. It has residual effect throughout the procedure, rapid healing of skin after surgery & it helps prevent infection.

Surgical Site Infection (SSI)

Patient Skin is a major source of pathogens that cause Surgical site infection, optimization of preoperative skin antisepsis may decrease postoperative infections. Surgical-Site-Infection occurs in 300,000 to 500,000 patients who undergo surgery in the United States each year, Since the patient’s skin is a major source of pathogens, it is conceivable that improving skin antisepsis would decrease surgical-Site-infection.

Chlorhexidine Gluconate + Isopropyl alcohol Clinical Quotes

The Study published in J.Infus, Nurs, 2002 Jul-Aug Chlorhexidine gluconate 2% + Isopropyl alcohol 70% [CHG + IPA] is immediate and persistent antimicrobial efficacy and safety which is significantly reduced abdominal and inguinal microbial counts from baseline at 10 minutes, 6 hours and 24 hours.
